According to SkillsUSA, NLSC “…is a showcase of career and technical education students. More than 16,000 people—including students, teachers and business partners—are expected to participate in the weeklong event”, and “…more than 6,000 outstanding career and technical education students—all state contest winners—will compete hands-on in 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields.”
The screen printing contests will feature two divisions: high school/vocational school and college/technical school. SGIA supplier members, including M&R, have donated nearly $40,000 in prizes.
“SkillsUSA helps cultivate our industry’s future workforce and it helps educators and students become aware of the opportunities our industry provides,” said Johnny Shell, SGIA’s Vice President of Technical Services, who chairs the committees that run the screen printing technology and graphic imaging–sublimation competitions. “Students train year round for the opportunity to compete,” he continued. In fact, we’ve even seen the competitions lead to jobs for some of the students.”
M&R will support the screen printing competition by sending two 4-station/6-color Sidewinder™ manual presses, an Economax D™ electric infrared dryer, a Blu-Flash™ infrared flash cure unit, a light-safe tent for screen exposures, and two Starlight™ UV LED screen exposure systems.
M&R is donating the two Starlight exposure units as prizes.
Said M&R’s President & CEO, Rich Hoffman, “SkillsUSA plays an important role in helping students prepare for careers in the garment-decorating industry, and we’re honored to have been asked to participate. To remain competitive in the global marketplace, America needs a highly skilled workforce, and SkillsUSA is committed to that effort.”
