M&R and Maddie Sikorski set World Record

  Friday, February 18, 2005

Glen Ellyn, IL, USA—On 18 February 2005, M&R established a world record for shirts printed in one hour by a single operator. The new record, 1805 shirts, was set at the 2005 Image Wear Expo in Orlando, Florida.

Working alone, Maddie Sikorski used a 12-color Formula 2000® and a Passport™ Automatic Textile Unloader to produce 1807 4-color shirts in one hour. Amazingly, there were only two misprints, so the record stands at 1805 shirts per hour. Maddie, who played an integral part in M&R's recent Print Challenge victory, was on loan from New Buffalo Shirt Factory in Buffalo, New York. Jon Weiss, founder and CEO of New Buffalo, said, "Every day, Maddie operates Formulas at speeds in excess of 1200 shirts per hour; she's the best of the best."

New Buffalo first gained national attention in 1993 when it was named Screen Printer of the Year. Known and admired for their pioneering work on dark substrates, New Buffalo continues to thrive as the premier printer of darks. The reason, says Weiss, is that they have always put quality first. "Quality is what brought us to the dance, and quality and productivity are what keep us here," he said.

Rich Hoffman, M&R CEO, commended M&R's partner in the record-setting achievement. "New Buffalo has relied on a fleet of Formulas for years, and Jon and his team continue to achieve results in quality and productivity that are nothing short of phenomenal."

Hoffman also expressed appreciation for the M&R tradeshow crew, and for the skill and dedication of all M&R employees who had a hand in developing and perfecting Formula and Passport. "We could not have attempted this record without M&R Trade Show Coordinator, Joel Glasener, and the skilled M&R technicians at the show. And I'm equally proud of every member of the M&R family, including the innovative engineers, technicians, and staff in Glen Ellyn and Niles who design, build, sell, and support the equipment used in this effort. Most people thought a successful auto-unloader for textiles wasn't possible, but the word can't isn't heard often at M&R."

Hoffman went on to say, "Maddie's record shows what can be achieved when the best operators work with the best equipment. It also shows the critical importance innovative technology plays in the most successful screen printing operations. The single-operator record set by Maddie would simply not have been possible without the Passport, and the tremendous output and exceptional misprint rate would not have been possible with any other press. Working together, Formula and Passport provide a competitive edge that can't be obtained any other way."

"These results also demonstrate how screen printers in Europe and the US can use automation to compete head-to-head with offshore operations," Hoffman concluded

The 12-color Formula and the Passport Unloader were previously dry-cycled at 2304 shirts-per-hour, exceeding human loading capabilities.
